KODE 9 at red bull music academy 2010

If you want to know about the various planes of the sonic world around us, you could do worse than turning to much respected DJ and producer Kode 9.

Steve Goodman has long since been the proprietor of the freshest beats in the scene, espousing the newest sounds via his Hyperdub label and encouraging such talented souls as Burial, Zomby and King Midas Sound.

But Kode9 also has the mind to match the music. Apart from running his label, producing, collaborating and DJing, he has a Ph.D in Philosophy, spent time studying "rave culture, cybernetics, postmodernism and afrofuturism" in the highly respected research collective and think tank the Cybernetic Culture Research Unit, and has just published a book "Sonic Warfare: Sound, Affect, and the Ecology of Fear".

The thinking man's raver, Kode 9 dropped by the Academy for a cup of tea, a listening session and a chat. Don't worry though, he's not as serious as he sounds...
